Et Spiritus Dei in Infideli

Et Spiritus Dei in Infideli

In the days of my bodily life I was taught that God was not with those of the pagan belief. In your current age, many Christians believe that God is not with those Christians of differing belief. More are taught that God is not with the Muslim, the Buddhist, or the Sikh and yet more believe that God is not present in the professed atheist. But as one who now lives amidst the host of the heavens, I know this to be untrue. For God is of Spirit and the presence of Spirit can be neither shut out nor contained. It cannot be said that a man is without God for that Spirit which is God is naturally present in all matter, all space, all ages of time and all flesh. The Spirit of God is also alive in the thoughts of all men and cannot be blocked or shut out by error or disbelief. All which exists, all which bears the breath of life bears also the presence of the Spirit we call God. Each man may be distracted in different measure by the temptations of the flesh, by his own vanity or the vanity of false religions and at times these distractions may make it appear that he is without the Spirit but the appearance is false. The Spirit of God and the knowledge of his righteous ways is present in all men, more apparent in some, subdued in others, but regardless of error or disbelief, the Spirit of God is alive and redemptive in all.

For with the presence of God come the active workings of the divine wisdoms of grace, charity and goodwill. These wisdoms are not dormant but lively and at constant  work against the more selfish and crude tendencies which we incline to. For the nature of the indwelling Spirit is to do this work in whomever it is present, without respect to personhood, religion or disbelief. By the wisdoms of God’s indwelling Spirit do we see the atheist who denies God still practice grace, the Muslim practice charity, and the Buddhist exude goodwill to all. For the ways of God are not vain like the changing thoughts or philosophies of men. The ways of God are alive, fused with his living Spirit and effective to all in whom they dwell regardless of errored belief or denial of his existence. And if the good effects of God’s Spirit to the deeds of man is pridefully credited to one’s own wisdom or ignorantly credited to a false religion, then the patience of God shall be upon that person in equal measure to the believer who loudly lays claim to the indwelling presence of God but shames God in his ungodly deeds. For God is equally gracious to the ignorant and to those of willful disbelief as to those who believe but do not follow.

Thus do we adhere to the oracles of God and not judge lest we ourselves be judged, knowing that we cannot embrace judgment selectively, invoking it against another without daring it upon ourselves. For we who are saved were once considered ignorant, disbelieving Gentiles in the age when God’s graces were reserved only for the Jewish people. And as those graces were extended to us in God’s own good time, so shall they be extended to all whom we may now judge as condemned. For as God’s Spirit was indwelling to the Gentiles even as the Jews thought us to be Godless, so is God’s Spirit also indwelling to those who now seem Godless to us. For there is no man of any religion, belief or disbelief in whose flesh God does not dwell. Nor is there any flesh that has not been affected, or which cannot be redeemed by the divine wisdoms that come with God’s indwelling presence.
